All programs / Cyber insurance readiness

Show your insurer the controls they expect.

Cyber insurance applications ask detailed questions about MFA, endpoint protection, backups and more. Check where you stand on the controls insurers commonly ask about, fix the gaps before renewal, and keep proof ready.

Why readiness matters

Underwriting has tightened. Applications now ask specific questions about your security, and your answers matter long after you sign.

Insurers ask about specific controls

Multi-factor authentication, endpoint detection and response, immutable backups, patching and email security appear on most cyber applications. Gaps can lead to declines, exclusions or higher costs.

Your answers need proof

An application is a representation to your insurer. Inaccurate answers can put a claim at risk, so keep evidence that each control is really in place.

Built on recognized frameworks

Every question maps to CIS Controls v8 and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0, widely used foundations for security programs.

Not insurance advice. NBT Systems is not an insurance broker or agent, does not recommend coverage or carriers, and cannot guarantee eligibility, coverage, terms or premiums. Insurer requirements vary by carrier and change over time; always answer your application accurately and consult your broker about coverage.

What the check covers

Eight control areas, weighted the way insurers tend to weigh them. Seven deal-breakers carry the most weight: MFA on email, remote access and admin accounts; monitored EDR; daily backups; an immutable or offline backup copy; and no internet-exposed remote desktop. Working with NBT Systems on remediation? Bring your insurer’s actual application, and we’ll map its security questions to these controls and flag anything extra it asks.

Questions businesses ask

Is this insurance advice?

No. NBT Systems is not an insurance broker or agent. The check helps you understand and document your security controls; talk to your broker about coverage, limits and carriers.

Will this lower my premium?

We can’t promise that. Premiums depend on your insurer, industry, claims history and the market. Having expected controls in place and proof ready can make underwriting smoother, but outcomes are up to your insurer.

Does it match my insurer’s application?

Applications differ by carrier and change every year, so the check covers the control categories insurers commonly ask about rather than any single form. Always answer your actual application accurately.

Can you work from our insurer’s application?

Yes, as part of guided remediation. Send us your application or renewal questionnaire through a secure upload, and we’ll map each security question to your controls, flag anything the readiness check doesn’t cover, close the gaps, and organize your evidence by the insurer’s question numbers. You complete and sign the application yourself; we help with the security questions only and don’t advise on coverage, limits or carriers.

Do you need access to our systems?

Not for the free check or the readiness report; both use your answers. Guided remediation includes verifying controls with your team or IT provider.

How are reports prepared?

Readiness reports are drafted with AI assistance from the answers in your progress file, using NBT Systems templates, and are not reviewed or validated. Guided remediation includes a review of your answers and verification of each control.

Which frameworks does it use?

Each question maps to CIS Controls v8 safeguards and NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 categories. That alignment is for reference; it isn’t a certification.

Are you a broker or MSP?

Brokers can share the free check with clients before renewal, and MSPs can add it to a white-label site. See partner plans.
